Fun and structured Taekwon-Do classes for children aged 5–8

Our Little Dragons classes introduce younger children to martial arts in a fun, friendly and structured environment.

Based at our dedicated martial arts centre in Kettering, the programme uses age-appropriate Taekwon-Do activities, games and challenges to help children develop confidence, coordination, discipline and listening skills.

No previous martial arts experience is needed. Children are supported to learn at their own pace while staying active, making friends and building positive habits that can help them at school and in everyday life.

More than just martial arts

Little Dragons provides children aged 5 to 8 with a positive introduction to Taekwon-Do. At this age, the focus is not simply on learning kicks, punches and blocks. Classes are designed to build the fundamental physical, social and personal skills children need before moving into our Junior Taekwon-Do programme.

Through regular training, Little Dragons can help children develop:

  • Greater confidence and self-esteem
  • Improved balance, coordination and fitness
  • Better listening and concentration
  • Discipline, respect and self-control
  • Experience taking turns and working with others
  • Independence and responsibility
  • Fundamental movement and motor skills
  • A positive attitude towards exercise and learning

Our aim is for every child to enjoy being active, feel included and leave each session with a sense of achievement.

What happens in a Little Dragons class?

Each 35-minute class is kept active, varied and suitable for younger children. Sessions include a warm-up, fundamental Taekwon-Do movements, coordination exercises, games and short activities based around confidence, discipline and safety.

The programme introduces children to basic martial arts skills without overwhelming them with techniques intended for older students. Instructions are kept clear and activities change regularly to help children remain engaged.

Children are also taught how to listen, take turns, follow directions and train respectfully with others. Our instructors provide clear boundaries, encouragement and support throughout every session.

Learning important life skills

Taekwon-Do is built around five tenets:

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self-control
  • Indomitable spirit

These values are introduced in a way that younger children can understand. We encourage Little Dragons to show good manners, keep trying when something is difficult, listen to their instructors and treat their training partners with respect.

Alongside physical training, the programme explores age-appropriate life and safety topics, which may include road safety, healthy choices, first aid, stranger awareness and how to respond positively to bullying.
