Help your child build confidence, improve their fitness and develop valuable life skills through martial arts.

Amity Martial Arts provides structured and enjoyable kids martial arts classes in Kettering for children aged 9 to 13. Classes are divided into age-appropriate groups, allowing every child to learn at a suitable pace in a friendly and supportive environment.

Children do not need any previous martial arts experience to get started. Whether your child is naturally confident, a little shy, highly energetic or simply looking for an enjoyable new activity, our instructors will help them feel welcome from their first lesson.

Helping Children Grow in Confidence

Martial arts gives children the opportunity to learn new skills, overcome challenges and recognise their own progress.

At Amity, children are encouraged to improve at their own pace. They learn that getting something wrong is part of learning and that progress comes through practice, patience and perseverance.

As children become more comfortable with their techniques, they often begin to feel more confident in themselves. This confidence can extend beyond martial arts, helping them approach new situations, schoolwork and social activities with a more positive attitude.

Our aim is not to place unnecessary pressure on children. We want them to enjoy training, feel proud of their achievements and develop a healthy attitude towards learning.

Junior Taekwon-Do for Ages 9–13

Junior Taekwon-Do classes provide more structured technical training for older children.

Students learn fundamental Taekwon-Do techniques, patterns, controlled sparring, self-defence and physical conditioning. They can also progress through the belt system as their knowledge, ability and attitude develop.

Although Amity follows an established syllabus, children are not rushed through grades. We believe that students should become competent and confident in what they have learned before moving on to more advanced material.

Children can train recreationally, work towards their next belt or, if interested, follow a pathway into competition training.

Benefits of Martial Arts for Children

Every child joins martial arts for a different reason. Some want to become more active, while others are looking to make friends, improve their confidence or learn how to defend themselves.

Physical Fitness

Martial arts involves a mixture of movement, kicking, punching, balance exercises, stretching and bodyweight activities.

Regular training can help children develop:

  • Balance and coordination
  • Flexibility and mobility
  • Strength and physical control
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Agility and reaction speed
  • Fundamental movement skills

Confidence and Self-Esteem

Learning a new technique takes time. Children are encouraged to keep trying, listen to feedback and recognise gradual improvements.

Completing a difficult exercise, demonstrating a technique or earning a new belt can give children a genuine sense of achievement.

We recognise effort and improvement rather than expecting every child to progress at exactly the same speed.

Focus and Listening

Martial arts requires children to watch demonstrations, follow instructions and apply what they have learned.

Lessons are structured, but the content varies to keep training interesting. Our instructors focus on manageable areas rather than trying to cover too much in one session.

This gives children time to understand and practise each skill properly.

Discipline and Respect

Respect is central to the way we train at Amity.

Children learn to listen when others are speaking, treat their training partners with consideration and behave responsibly within the martial arts centre.

Respect works in both directions. Students are also encouraged to ask questions, communicate with instructors and provide appropriate feedback regardless of their age or grade.

Friendships and Social Skills

Martial arts is an individual journey completed as part of a team.

Children train with partners, work in groups and help one another improve. This creates opportunities to build friendships with other children outside their usual school environment.

We want every student to feel that they belong at Amity, whether they train once or twice a week or choose to compete.

Perseverance and Resilience

Not every technique will work immediately. Martial arts teaches children that improvement often requires patience and repeated practice.

Students learn to respond positively when something is difficult, accept constructive feedback and try again. These are valuable skills that can support children in many areas of life.

A Friendly but Structured Environment

Amity means friendly and peaceful relations between people. That meaning guides the atmosphere we want to create throughout the club.

Our logo shows two people bowing to one another, representing mutual respect. Children are taught to respect their instructors and training partners, but they are also treated with respect themselves.

Classes are friendly and welcoming, while maintaining the structure needed for children to learn safely and make progress.

The five tenets of Taekwon-Do form an important part of this approach:

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self-Control
  • Indomitable Spirit

These are not simply words that children are expected to remember. We encourage students to demonstrate them through their behaviour inside and outside the martial arts centre.

A Safe and Supportive Martial Arts Club

Parents should feel confident about the environment in which their child is training.

Amity Martial Arts has a published safeguarding commitment and operates in accordance with the requirements of its martial arts associations.
